Excellent 360 degrees view from Mt. Omine(大峰山)

 Hiking Mt. Omine(大峰山), Mt. West Omine(西大峰山) & Mt. Onento(オオネントウ)

About Mt. Omine

Mt. Omine is at Saeki ward of Hiroshima city.

From the summit of Mt. Omine, you can enjoy the 360 degrees view, Hiroshima city and Miyajima at the South side, and Mt. Rakan or Mt. Garyuu at the North side.

Due to the beautiful view from the summit, Mt. Omine are popular among Hikers of Hiroshima.

It also close to the center of Hiroshima city and you can drive to the mountain less than an hour.

About the hiking trail

  • Distance of the trail: 8.6km
  • Cumulative elevation difference: 792m
  • Total time: 4h19m (Rest 48m)
  • Calories consumed: 2258kcal
  • Date: 15 May 2022
I have chosen circular track starting from the parking space of Mt. Omine.

The 3 hours and 30 minutes course (w/o the rest) was just the right exercise for me.

If that's too much, just take a walk to the top of Mt. Omine and back, then it will take only about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and you could still enjoy the view.

There is a large parking space at the starting point of the trail.

There are toilets too.

These facilities and the mountain trail are all managed by local mountain club, and there was a donation box in the hut for the operating expense for the mountain club, so I donated 300 JPY (about 2$) for thanking to their effort.

Hiking to the summit

This was the second time I came to Mt. Omine.

It was a cloudy day and the maximum temperature was below 20 degrees Celsius, so I think now is one of the best season in Japan to hike mountains throughout the year.

From June Japan will enter to a rainy season, and after the rainy season is over on July, the temperature will become over 30 ~ 40 degrees Celsius, and also humid, which are so uncomfortable condition to do anything.

There was a mountain hut near the starting point for hikers to rest.

Inside the hut, there were bunch of old posters on the wall. Most of them are singer of Japanese traditional ballads from decades ago.

Walked along the well organized Cryptomeria forests.

There was a ladder before the top of Mt. Omine.

It took about 1h15m to reach to the summit.

Great view from the top of Mt. Omine.

I was excited with the view!

A small shrine behind the large rock of summit of Mt. Omine.

The summit of Mt. West Omine.

There was a nice bench and can also see the nice view.

2h20m has passed and I was feeling a bit tired.

No view from the summit of Mt. Onento.

And hiking down the mountain.

Run in to a load. I always feel relieved when I was able to safely hike down.

Came back to the parking Space.

I met only 2 or 3 other hikers this day and I think it was surprisingly few.

Maybe some people hesitate to go out due to Covid 19 or the popularity of the mountain has been weakened.

But I think it is one of the best mountains in Hiroshima where I could recommend to anyone.
